Granny's gone and done it again

Good morning everyone.

We woke up to cloudy skies, fog and rumbles of thunder this morning. The wind picked up and leaves started to fall from the walnut trees in our timber. The first of the Fall I suspect although while it's cooler here it definitely isn't fall-ish yet.

I looked at our extended forecast and they are predicting well below normal temps through the middle of Sept. While it isn't in full swing, I can sense a change in the air. It's dark before 8 PM now and there is a feeling of 'hurry up, not much more time to get projects done' that is spurring me to make the most out of the day.

This week we are getting lumber delivered to work on some home projects. A new, wider door for our shop entry and wood to start on my coop expansion project which will be about 3 days worth of work but save me a load of time and comfort for both me and the bachelors.

@Granny Hatchet so sorry your back is flaring up on you. Here's an invite to visit my 'Keeping Chickens When You Have Arthritis' thread. You aren't alone and there are tons of ideas and suggestions on how to make life easier with chickens when you are suffering from chronic pain.

In the mean time, feel better.:hugs

Hey, @Beer can You found where Cap and I have been hanging out. Welcome to the conversation!
Granny had to give up her chickens because her set up was not predator proof, and she was unable to keep up with daily maintenance. Now she keeps fish.

Last day of August, 3 weeks left until FALL arrives! Hurry hurry hurry!
By the way Cap, if your little ones run out of stuff to eat over there, bring them over here. I has PLENTY!
Alabama is a bit of a trip from VA, but thanks for the offer.

Oh, I have a question. Yesterday I put a nice sized basket full of chips/grass in the barrel where SP lays her eggs.. Stuck all 7 eggs in the basket in a grouping hoping she would get the idea. This morning 3 of the eggs were out of the basket in a nice little grouping. Is she separating eggs on purpose? and since the basket is about 5" tall... how did she get them out of it?

Happy 3 weeks to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

NOTE: Notice the little gray/blk/white chick with the primaries sticking straight up from his wing? It's always like that... I wonder why?
Could it be a frizzle?

They stick them under their wing and cart them around. They can also do that with chicks.

I’ll look more into that. I thought they could be now but I could be wrong. Not like I’ll be keeping my boy intact and hitting the show ring for confirmation and stuff anyway lol. If we compete, I want it to be for doing. schutzhund is out but tracking, agility, obedience....all options

They’re still brand new jellybeans. I think it’s more end of October most like. Will need to be asking about that one next email lol. It usually takes a few days for her to get back to me. (And hey. Especially with a big litter to mind and her own family/ranch, I get it!)

I’m tossing around Toque. (T ou k) but a friend of mine up north had one of her huskies named that lol.
I have problem with names.

To the best of my knowledge, Kevin only incubated eggs from EEs, Marans, RIRs and Bielefelders. He made no mention of Frizzles. Just looks like lil guy stretched his wing but the feathers never folded back in correctly.

I got two 5 gallon buckets of weeds pulled from the driveway, gave them to the chickens. Put up the rest of the chicken wire on the short side. Picked up a bunch of sticks and tossed them out of the pasture. Then I cleaned out one of the chicken coops that had 2 wagon loads of bedding in it. After that, i came in for a break and it was nearly supper time!
