The Alapaha is thought to have existed in the southern United States for approximately 200 years, but there is no documentation of the breed before 1979.

The breed is apparently having issues too. High mortality rates on litters.

Peach’s coat was pretty short. Not pitty short but two inches? Less? Short enough that it wouldn’t matt up or get stuff tangled up in it. She’d go hang out in the snow at -40 crazy mutt.
