Granny's gone and done it again

MY pups will literally chew the house down, outside they will chew down small trees.
Our first cattle dog, who we lost almost 2 years ago would chew field wire in two and would unravel chain link fence. Not much could hold that dog in except for hot wire. One day he peed against it.....saw him do it.....I found him in the shop hiding under the sink. It must have hurt like hell but he never went through that fence again. He just went to the west fence which wasn't hot wired and snuck out that way!

Star, did you see where I had another heart attack and had surgery ? And you werent even here to baby me !

I knew you had the attack but didn't know you had another surgery!:hugsYou gotta stop doing that to yourself Granny! RIGHT NOW!:hugs

My next strategy is an e collar.
First set we got to use on our 5 young cattle dogs....they ate. No kidding, they kept taking them off one another and chewing them up. It was like they had a plan.

I bought one a few months ago just in case they got too much out of hand again. Nope, still in the box. We bought prong collars to use on them. Sure makes them civilized really fast!

Stents? Still no fun, girl!

With my warped sense of humor I'd ask the cardiologists if I get a free stent after the first 3? Or ask him if there is a do it yourself kit on the market!

Just think though. When I graduated from nurse's training, they were just starting to experiment with stents. Mostly it was always bypass surgery if you had a narrowed artery or vein in your heart.

I had rheumatic fever when I was 23 years old that left me with a heart murmur. The cardiologist that I saw told me not to worry. About the only thing he saw in my future was maybe a valve replacement after the age of 45 (I'm 67 and still have all my original cardiac equipment, thank God! Knock on wood and cross my fingers) but if I kept my weight down, exercised and took care of myself by the time I needed it it would be outpatient surgery.

Darned near is. I knew somebody who had the procedure done 20 years ago on a Friday and was home on Monday.

We live in a wonderous time!

whats an e collar ?
Training collar using either a low grade electric shock/tickle or vibrations to train a stubborn dog or at least get it's attention.

Some dogs respond great with them others seem to be tougher than the collar. Our young ACDs responded to the vibration setting. All we had to do was pick up the controller and show it to them and all nonsense would stop....until they chewed up the collars that is.:hmm

We have been working him since we got him back. Year ago.

First thing he does when he meets someone new is not only jump on them but tries to hump. He needs a very strong person that will make him toe the line. I have never been able to break a bad habit once the dog turns one.
I saw a video where the trainer walks toward the dog when he does that, forces the dog to back up. Establishes dominance. When the dog stops jumping, the trainer pets the dog (reinforces correct behavior). I call it Red Light, Green Light. Repeat as needed. Correct what you don't want, reinforce what you do. IME, dogs learn quickly when people are consistent.
