Granny's gone and done it again

Do you have spondylosis in your neck and spine? My cervical spine is flattening so it's hard to hold my head up and straight. It isn't fun living with a perpetually stiff neck.

Also do you have degenerative disc disease? Got that too throughout my spine which is why I haven't been around the last few days. Felt bad. Neck and shoulders stiff and sore, blah blah blah. I've spent most of the day on the sofa just relaxing and sleeping. I finally took my as needed pain meds yesterday and felt pretty darned normal for me for a change. Getting out of bed in the morning is a kick in the head but once up and enjoying an infusion of coffee the early morning pain diminishes to a tolerable level.

I'm facing the reality of downsizing my flock. No plans to send anybody to freezer camp as I love this flock of birds but I don't need any more chickens and I'm not replacing any birds that die from this point on. My plans are to have a dozen laying hens and a few roosters. My RA and Osteo isn't going to get better, only worse. Face it guys, getting old isn't for sissies and getting old with RA and degenerative disc disease makes it even more a challenge.

Take care, Cluck and rest assured, you aren't alone! :hugs

Yes, I have degenerative disc disease, likely from a work injury. I can't remember what my neurologist called it but it's also responsible for a lot of the migraines I get. I get bouts of time that I can't think clearly and experience extreme fatigue. It's part of why I'm drinking coffee this morning, I usually drink chai tea but when I'm fuzzier I gravitate toward coffee.

If I didn't have my Husband an Daughter to help me when I'm down, I wouldn't be able to keep the chickens at all. I completely understand! :hugs

So sorry you are suffering. Maybe it will let up some. Have you tried massage?

Any idea how many Christmas cards you need every year for Granny's group?

Yes, @CapricornFarm, I've tried deep massage via physical therapy. Didn't help much. I keep having continuous muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders, especially on the left side.

The only thing that gave me a lot of relief was acupuncture but with the covid virus around, PT will have to wait. I do my exercises every day but so help me it is getting to the point where the exercises are overshadowing normal activities.

Same here @CluckNDoodle. My sweet husband helps me a lot and this fall he built a new wall in my existing coop/shed so I could move my bachelors and main flock into one building..

Hang in there. I know how much you are hurting. :hugs

Do you get the hand tingling and finger numbness?

I found that acupuncture helped me a little as well! I went to a chiropractor for about 7 years before I stopped because it was so painful for days after being adjusted. Acupuncture helped some and I had zero down time from it. It's so expensive that I had to stop though.

I couldn't do the exercises after a time. I have gotten to the point now that I put all of my effort into getting tasks around the house done a little at a time and that's basically my exercise.

I had/have severe carpel tunnel, so yes I have numbness and tingling. I had surgery that helped that immensely as far as the shooting pains that woke me up in the middle of the night but I still have very weak and crampy hands now. I have stuff go numb randomly is I fall asleep on the couch and my head tilts in a weird direction.

I've been dealing with it for quite some time. I do try to stay positive, it could be worse but some days the limitations get the best of me. I'm not technically very old but I can't even keep up with my older friends and it can become awkward constantly canceling on people so I often just don't make plans in the first place. I think that is what has been hardest for me over the years.
