Never tried it that way. We don't like a lot of sugar though so I usually just cook the apples on the stove until done, take them off and mash, taste, add enough sugar to take the tart out of them, return them to the stove stirring constantly until the last of the juice is cooked off and then cooled for freezing.I do mine in the oven much less chance of scorching it that way FOR me at least BUT then I like a thick sauce not something that "weeps" a ring of liquid when you put it on the plate.
