Granny's gone and done it again

Like 10 yrs long time ? No matter. No apples or biscuits.
Sugar and honey have an indefinite shelf life. The sugar sucks water out of any bacteria that might come along and kills them. People have used sugar and honey as wound dressing because they are so good at killing bacteria. Bacteria and molds are mostly what spoil food.

I knew that about honey but not sugar. No wonder I dont hardly get colds !

I'm going to have to try to cut back more on the sugars. I'm good about giving myself a stop date and sticking to it. I did that when I went on my diet two years ago and dropped 30 pounds fast by eliminating junk food and things like bread.

Perhaps I'll set a date between Christmas and New Years and that will be my 'cut back date'. I don't use sugar in things like Tea or Coffee but I do use Stevia and sweet n low. I know they can impact your blood sugars but I consider them to be the lesser of the evils. No problem giving up candy. Already done that. Cookies will be tough. I'll probably scale back and allow myself a day when I 'indulge' within reason. Not going to eat a half gallon of ice cream or anything of the sort but allow myself a couple of cookies or whatever and see if it impacts my joint pain any.

As bad as my DDD is, anything that helps reduce the inflammation is a blessing as far as I'm concerned.

And on a bright spot. I already found a couple of cookie recipes calling for apple sauce for sweetening instead of sugar. I have about 2/3rds of a bushel of apples in our shop right now. Guess I gots to make me some applesauce.

I do mine in the oven much less chance of scorching it that way FOR me at least BUT then I like a thick sauce not something that "weeps" a ring of liquid when you put it on the plate.

According to Paula Dean any recipe that calls for oil you can substitute apple sauce instead, THIS I have NOT tried.

I always tell the doctor that before all is said and done I'll be out in the back yard grazing on grass and twigs.

I figure cutting back without eliminating is the way to go. There are foods that I can't eat because of my IBS and absence of a gall bladder (fie on the doctors who say if you have your gall bladder removed you can eat whatever you want). I don't eat much red meat and when I do it's ultra lean so it's tough as old shoe leather and no fun to eat, eat plenty of poultry and fish and eat meatless one day a week. If I want a cookie by golly I'm eating a cookie.

How you feeling these days Cap?
Not too bad, but really tired today. I won't likely spend too much time outside tomorrow because it's going to be cold. So maybe get some Xmas decor up.

I wish I knew some kind of simple dessert for Christmas dinner. So far I got a whole chicken and some instant potatoes and gravy.

Well if you can manage to save some of the stuff I sent you could just do a plate/tray of cookies and stuff.

I should mention I also "cheat" a little and instead of water to get the apples going I use UNsweetened apple juice.

Yes, I think with me it was an addiction. I gave up alcohol and turned to sugar. Everyone is different. I can’t just eat one cookie. Lol
It's hard to get away from sugar. In everything pretty much.

I've had good luck cooking it down in the crock-pot, too.
