Sammy growls too, when he's trying hard to talk! It's different from like a warning growl, grr, something scary's afoot, right before he barks, HEY! intruder alert! ... no, this is a frustrated noise he makes deeper in his throat, rrrr, halfway between a growl and a whine: golly, I wish I could talk and make you understand what I want right now! It's not at all threatening.

Sammy almost did too, tried to pee at the top of the stairs just outside the back door, the wuss. I chased him off and made him go out in the yard like always. Later he pooped right at thr bottom of the stairs. Big baby.
