He has to be on a leash so you have control. Yelling at him when he alert barks is confusing for him. It's like you are barking too. Change out the barking and jumping behaviors for something else, like sitting. Best way to do this is to plan short, regular training sessions. Have someone ring the bell and teach him to sit or whatever replacement behavior you choose. It will take awhile, lots of practice. I did this with Scooter. He used to bark if he heard a doorbell on the tv!
