Granny's gone and done it again

Gracie!!! Her face is so adorable! 😍

She is so sweet 🥰

The chicks are growing fast! So you are keeping all the pullets?
And thank you, but ... Lol, she is not all that "sweet." She has always been a barker but lately she is getting plumb out of control! It does seem that she is most settled around the chicks though. Maybe she is getting a little senile, but having a job to do settles her. I can see in her face that she is at peace and very content when she is with them. But I am not ready to leave her unattended with them yet. We sit out there with her for about an hour a day. For years she spent most of her days lying on the front step, guarding the house and being ready to chase squirrels, but in the last few months she's just been mostly in the house. Her arthritis hurts her a bit, I think. Ah, we're growing old together, she and I.

Over 70 chickens to go to the big swap! Did I mention that? I was working on an Ex-pen , adding hardware cloth so youngsters can't get out. About half done. Cleaned out a brooder and took older chicks outside. Now to take chicks out of incubator and set up a bin for them. My friend is bringing her truck and trailer, only way to get all of them up there with all the equipment.
When are you going? Good luck with getting rid of that many chickens. May have to make them a deal they can't refuse.

So sorry to hear, Cherry. What breed was she?
EE.

I did a necropsy on her, when my parents were out of the house. I never butchered nor done a necropsy before, but since my parents won't let me send her to the lab and I was very curious what killed her, I chose to do it. Wyorp Rock helped me through it. I could not tell, but she said it looked like her reproductive system was swollen, including the oviduct.

That was very brave of you. Wyorp Rock is awesome! I bet you learned a lot. Maybe some day you can necropsy a healthy bird so you can get a good idea of what one should look like, then you'll have something to compare to.

I watched a video that Wyorp Rock sent me. It was the process of doing a necropsy on a healthy bird.
