Granny's gone and done it again

You do not need that many broody breeds. Trust me, it can be a pain when you get attacked by a broody every morning. Just a few Silkies will do. They, along with Cochins are by far the two broodiest breeds.

One thing to consider is that Silkies have crests and a vaulted skull. They can become bully targets really easily. Bigger breeds like Wyandotte's tend to be quite bullies. Although it makes them great broody mamas, it can be dangerous as well. One hard bonk on the head for a Silkie can be dangerous. They are also more prone to get Marek's and I believe also wry neck.
Oh, I see...that is definitely good advice. I had planned on keeping my silkies totally separate from the rest of the flock, even from the other small breeds I want. They are so small. I also just want to go in their run and cuddle with them. The ones I had a long time ago were super sweet and cuddly. Even the rooster. I need to make a plan of how many chickens and how many of each breed I aim to have in case I order chicks...or when/if I find someone who has them locally.

If it were fertile, he couldn't even tell 🤣

Oh well. 🤷‍♀️
Yes, LOL, it is all mental with him. I have seen veins in eggs from the grocery store. I am not sure how. He is a strange bird, ha. But...I don't like sweet peas. It is a mental thing with me, haha. It makes me think of ticks. I will eat them in food, but not by themselves. LOL

Why do you want broody hens if your not keeping a rooster?
Granny, I couldn't have roosters, but I hatched all the time. 😁. I spent a lot of money. I had incubators..and when a girl would go broody, I would give her eggs. More often than not, I'd hatch them..then give them a couple of chicks if she would take them...a bit early.
