Granny's gone and done it again

Thanks, CC. In this list, are Marans being the darkest or the lightest?
The list begins with the darkest but I've had Marans from good lines that didn't lay dark eggs at all because the breeder who started with the lines, didn't select for egg color. I guess they thought that trait would be magically retained.
In my mind, shell color is the trickiest thing to retain in a breeding flock.

I doubt they are able to enforce it though. Cant see the cops out patrolling in this mess.

Pretty much would be if you get in an accident or slide into the ditch you on your own until they can get to you safely and then you get a ticket/fined/jailed. Depends on how the state has it written up.

This is a common misconception with most livestock or even LGDs. I hear it all the time.

But it is an LGD Breed and should do the job.
Yes, it is but from non-working lines. None of the parents, grands for generations have seen a cow let alone guarded any. Do not be surprised if it does not do the job you expect it to do.

Definitely. Depends on the bloodline. I wouldn't expect hatchery-quality birds to lay very dark brown eggs in general. They will be dark brown, but probably not super dark.

I have a couple of super dark Maran and Bielfelder eggs in the incubator. I am hoping to get some hens from them. My luck I will get 5 roosters from the 5 dark brown (two are so dark they are almost black.
