Mine sprung a leak about two years ago. Only leaks when we turn it on but we didn't want to risk turning it on and having it puke out water when we turned it off.It does get old , hauling water. My frost free hydrant froze!
Yes, we had to replace a hydrant we put in when we moved here. About 4 years ago. Things just don't last like they used to.Mine sprung a leak about two years ago. Only leaks when we turn it on but we didn't want to risk turning it on and having it puke out water when we turned it off.
There were three frost free hydrants on the property. Rolled in one weekend and there was a pool of water around one near the barn. Well crap. Called the water company and they checked their readings. No, it hadn't been leaking long. Our bill was only up about 20 dollars. We shut it off at the meter and went to work digging. Discovered that it had blown a washer so drove into the city looking for a replacement only to find that brand of hydrants had been discontinued so we had to MacGyver a new washer for it. Big problem is there is another just like it set in concrete on our back porch that the previous owner had used to supply water for their washing machine. We are afraid to turn it on now because if it blows we will be cutting out a big chunk of concrete to get to it.
So the other hydrant is a different brand and repairing it is on the to do list. In the mean time I haul water in two gallon kitty litter jugs that I pull up to the coop on either my wagon or my sled. Not fun when the wind is hitting you in the face and the wind chill is -36 AND it's snowing.
Gawd I'm so ready for spring already.
@grannyhatchet. Hang in there. What will be will be. The doctors do have your best interests in mind and trust God to lead them in the right direction. Keeping you in my prayers.
I lived in a two-room shack in Montana for a while after getting off that covered wagon excursion. The only running water was what was running in an irrigation ditch in front of the house. Heat was wood burning in a big Monarch stove. I cooked on that stove and washed dishes in a big metal dishpan on its surface. I had to chop wood for both chores, although my then-husband kept wood available pretty reliably. I was 21 years old, had had a miscarriage and weighed about 98 lbs. I didn't think it sucked. It just had to be done so I did it.I had an apartment once that didn't have a sink in the "kitchen". So i had to wash dishes in the bathroom sink. It sucks.
I didn't know that was possible! It does get old , hauling water. My frost free hydrant froze!
We have Elmer, Ethyl and Knob Noster (where Whiteman AFB is along with the B2 bombers and I imagine a lot of nuclear warheads.)Yep. Also nearby, a town called Climax!
What was it, just a stove? No running water? Is that even legal? Can't wash your hands before you eat? Ick.Slum lords. I was going to college. Couldn't afford much. One bedroom, a bathroom and a tiny kitchen with no sink.
There is a Climax in Colorado too. Way up high in the mountains.Yep. Also nearby, a town called Climax!
