Hope everyone stays safe in the storms.

Dummy me forget to lock up the hens last night and my Marans got killed.

Very bummed, because it didn't need to happen. Also, she was my dark egg layer, besides the old Welsummer who has never been a good layer. I really like the dark colored eggs, especially next to the green and blues.

Just so happens, the feed store has Welsummers and Barnevelder chicks in right now. hmmm... Either would be a good replacement, but I can't get just one, can I? Maybe one of each?

Has anyone ever had a hatchery Barnevelder? Are they nice?

I dont know about hatchery but I think Lisa has some .

Last Monday, when we got the nasty hard rains, and I had to walk to the school in the rain to get the kids, I walked in soaking wet.

It was still raining out and the office ladies where bringing me paper towels to dry off...
I let them know although I hate the rain and usually melt when I get wet from the rain, I didn't mind it "this" time...cuz it was to be considered my shower for the day/week..
I said it with a straight face...I had to let them know after a few mixtures I was kidding!

My hatchery Welsummers lay a dark egg...well I think they are dark..and they are very sweet girls...
i still think they might be growing spurs though...

I plan my whole day, week...around the rain.
I hate driving in it..
I can let my chickens it when it rains...
God forbid I run out of TP and it's raining.....
no one better have to poop!



It is well known...I shut down...as far as having to go ANYWHERE if it rains.

Yes..I think you are right...
At first.(my girls have only been laying for 2 months) my Welsummer girls eggs were lighter and splotchy...
They now lay a more darker egg..less spotty.

Ally, That storm is not a nice one for sure.  I was feeding chickens when it hit. I was trapped in my pole barn for about half hr.  Very loud on a metal roof. After I got in the house it stopped but we got an orange sky. 

The feather brains wouldn't go in early so waiting until 9 I guess to shut them in. If it calms down. Neighboring town got hail.

Hope the storm is over for you! And that you stay safe, no dancing in this rain ya hear?

hahaa, I wish I could still dance in the rain. Maybe if it was very warm and a slow dance I could.
supposed to be a round 2 but think it might miss me. and then, that we have a chance of that bad 4 letter word !
