She was playing with Robert and had the zoomies. I went into my room and she came flying in there and jumped on my bed. I held my arm out to give her pets and she jumped up and her paw landed on my arm as she was coming back down.

Now we're wondering if that's what our Lucy cat died of. I was looking at some of the last pictures I took of her, and I can't believe that I didn't notice how awful she looked. Just like Sylva, the dull, greasy-looking, staring coat... she had lost weight, though, I remember that ...

We're hoping we caught it early! It's apparently a parasitic infection (?) caught from a tick bite, where the tick previously fed on a bobcat. The parasites set up shop in the cat's liver. We thought Sylva's coat wasn't looking as sleek and shiny as normal, and GC realized she hadn't eaten for a couple of days and also wasn't her normal, playful self. At the vet's, she had a temp of 106! (101 is normal) so they did blood work on her and got the dx.

I agree, this is a whole new reason to detest these nasty creatures! I had no idea this was even a thing until today. Most flea/tick meds require the tick to bite the animal before it dies - and that's how the animal gets infected. The Seresto 8 month flea/Tick collar, however, protects your pet by killing ticks on contact, BEFORE it can bite. Guess we'll be buying a couple of those.

Now, why didn't our vet recommend those?

This is going to cost us well over $1,000, whether the cat survives or not. But our GirlChild is worth it, this cat means a lot to her. We are praying it survives, for her sake.

I don't have any streaming services. I feel very left out sometimes. I see these amazing commercials for what look like good programs and then at the end they say, Streaming on Paramount Plus and I'm like, Rats!

I ordered chicks today .... from Hoover's.
Six each, Prairie Bluebell Eggers and Sapphire Gems. Plus 8 Cornish Game Hens. They'll get here next Wednesday.

The PBEs are multi-colored mutts that are supposed to lay a pretty blue egg, while the SG are a pretty blue chicken that lays brown eggs. I think I got that right, lol!

I need to cull out at least 8 of my older girls for the freezer. So I'll have some for soup and some for meat, heading into winter and spring.
