Some breeders are using American White Bresse roosters on Cornish Rock hybrids for meat birds that can now breed naturally and grow quite quickly with no leg or heart problems. Nice birds for the homesteaders.

I know a local here that AI's all of his dogs. They can't breed naturally. Don't know the breed. He was here working for me one day and told me about how and why he did it then.

This dog was young and kept getting on the wrong end. Sigh.

Can't. I'd have to keep the whole flock in, and it's too small for that. When we've done this in the past, we've found that rodeoing them in like this for 3 or 4 nights is usually sufficient, as long as we keep the brooder shut. Which of course we have to now with the Cornish babies in there.

Next thing I have to do, and can't put off much longer, is to cull the OG's. DH keeps putting it off bc he says the Gems and Eggers aren't roosting yet anyway, they're still cuddling on the floor. But ... if I wait till they start roosting it will be too late and I'll have bullying. I gotta do it soon.

I did the research for AI with chickens as I knew it should be easier than the huge double breasted turkeys. It is. Once I get an AI coop up with cages I'll start doing some here with little rooster to big hens, big roosters to tiny hens.....

But what I need to do now is go to bed. I've been fighting sleep like a toddler. Had to wait late enough I wouldn't wake up at 3am and not go back to sleep.
