This is the second bird you've had disappear mysteriously in a couple of weeks, Larry.

I've lost one rooster a week or so ago. I thought first thing this morning I had lost two Ancona pullets last night. The door to the coop was open this morning. I shut the door myself this afternoon and when I went out for an after dark coop check it was open again. It's a good thing we put the inside the coop safety closer on it. I know now that it was no accidental thing. I'll be working on all coops tomorrow to make sure they are closed up tight.

I have no birds now that free range for very long and only if I'm out there with them. About 8 roosters can be out around the house during mid day. Not before. Attacks seem to come after daylight but very early. I need to install a camera to find out what I'm dealing with so I will know how to eliminate the threat.

Third Ancona girl turned up when I went to close up a rooster coop. She thought she was hiding between two big Hampshire boys with two other roosters in front of them. I eased my arm between the front roosters and grabbed her and it sounded like Armageddon. She screamed loud enough to disturb the neighbors down the road. She is back in her coop with her sisters and beau.

I'm glad you found her, Larry. I imagine your birds are valuable? After I had that guy that got lost tell me several times what "expensive" birds I had, we've been keeping the hen house padlocked at night. Maybe overkill, but .... now I don't worry about chicken rustlers.

There's only one way in and out of our place. If anyone tries to use any other way they will be responsible for getting their vehicle repaired if it survives.
