it also keeps them fresher. IF the head is tightly wrapped, I don't think it adds much weight.

I have a recipe somewhere for a cabbage casserole. That's basically stuffed cabbage or cabbage rolls with out all the work. Just shred the cabbage instead and mix with the filling.

That would work. I've made a casserole with zucchini and cabbage that way. Don't forget the bacon in it.
