Hate I missed Linda.
Fundraiser was alright. I was up at 5 getting cages ready and catching birds. At 5:30 we loaded the big animals: cow, donkey, two goats. At 5:45 I put DD in the shower. At 5:58 I put myself in the shower, put old clothes on, and then ran around the house like a crazy person til we left at 6:50.
7:50 we get to the church as the cops are driving away. One of the volunteers tripped the alarm. :/ And after that it was a blur of setting up and getting ready. The goats and the cow were constantly breaking the fence because DH preferred netting we had on hand to actual fencing. The ducks wouldn't eat from anyone's hand, Mae West decided she needed to lay an egg and spent the entire day building nests and beating up the littles, and the silkie has been fighting so one of his eyes was swollen shut. :/ :/
Around 9 the kids were being hungry tired bears and I realized there was no breakfast coming. I told the staff that if someone did not conjure up food that I was going to pass out and die in the grass, then they could all dance on my dead body. That was a crazy thing to say, so I called my BFF to deliver food and coffee.
Petting zoo had 26 tickets. Dunk tank was going well til a ball ricocheted and broke a window. We have two very supportive pastors (and a third associate pastor) who love camp enough to take a pie in the face. They surprised everyone with a fourth pie for DH, and the staff paid $100 to shove it in his face. So that part alone made over $300, auctioning the chance to pie your pastor.
I'm disappointed with the turnout. My goal was 3000, and I would've been satisfied with 300. I think we MIGHT have scraped 100 together. A good many silent auction items didn't receive bids, after paying for food the concessions only made about $50. Three teams and two boys showed up for the basketball tournament, so DH and a few of the camp guys filled in the rest of that team. I had a list of sponsors 4 pages long and I still forgot some. I got emotional thanking the 30 people there supporting us (this was after lunch).
I think everyone who came to the event had a lot of fun. We probably could have made more money but we didn't charge for face painting, bounce house, or games because we wanted families to come. There was no entry fee, either. All told we made around $8k. It was still short of my goal, but I'm really glad things went well.
