Need to bring back the deep sea fishing in FL. I've never seen shrimp used to catch fish on a true deep sea fishing adventure. Usually squid has been the bait of choice on the Atlantic coast for Gulf coast. For inshore trips by local anglers shrimp is always popular for catching sea trout, mangrove snapper, black sea bass, sheephead, and several more. Most of which are pan fish. The best eating of those is the black sea bass. Mild and fine grained white non fishy flesh. When fishing the deep water for grouper bait can be a fish that weighs at least a pound as a 30 lb grouper can swallow a whole 6 lb bait fish. As an early teen I saw two high school age boys come in one morning in a row boat dragging a huge Goliath grouper. They used a hoist to get it up on the doc and then an axe to remove its head. It was around 200lbs. Those are illegal to keep now unless some restrictions have been lifted. Goliath grouper is a new politically correct name for what was known for many decades as a Jew Fish. Last I knew the creek made famous for this huge grouper down in the FL Keys was still being called Jew Fish Creek. Younger generations may never make the connections. A Black Grouper of 40lbs will make a lot of prime fish for the freezer. A Warsaw Grouper of a 100lbs or more will feed a family for many weeks.

Just got back from the hospital keeping my friend company. She had s knee replacement earlier today. Saw the x-rays, pretty cool. The surgeon's nice, personable young man, looks about 16, lol.
