Granny's gone and done it again

I will be staying home alone tomorrow while Ma travels to visit daughter about 45 miles away. She is stopping at the big farmers market to see if our favorite vendor was able to secure some very special muscadine grapes this week for us. Need more jam. I noticed one nice difference in the sugar vs Splenda product is that the jelly made with sugar is rolly polly all over the bread while the Splenda made product spreads like a fancy jam. I like spreadable. :) I can't tell a difference in flavor but I'm working on reducing as much sugar as I can from my system. The mix of the muscadine product with a fresh ripe banana is a gift from Heaven.

I've thought about planting tall stock corn and maybe even some white corn that is used for cornflakes with pole beans climbing the stalks that provide nitrogen for the corn. Rows 4' apart with field pumpkins for chicken feed in the middles. A few hills of pie pumpkins for our use. No sense in letting the chickens have all the treats.
When I was little, instead of making rows for corn, we made holes and dropped 3 kernels into each hole-the Holes were in rows. It was less time consuming. We always planted our pumpkins in with the corn. I think it was too save garden space.

@ShrekDawg among some of the Goodies DH gets at auction was a medical book from the early 1900s. Im not sure if you would call it interesting or fascinating, but it was hard to put down. It was about treating the mentally retarded, mentally handicapped or special needs people. You choose the name that you wish to use. The medical term back then for these people was 'Idiot'. I found it unbelievable that aDr would call his patient an idiot.(With today's terms) Do you think using the name idiot for someone who does something stupid derived from this?

Oh wow that’s really interesting

Well this week has caused me to reach a decision.

With only 3 months left in the year I have come to the conclusion that 2024 sux. I demand a redo...anybody know where that reset button is?

Y'all know, just one little piddly irritating thing after another. Hurt my ribs in March. In June, my shoulder (which is still not healed) DH had to have a medical procedure done that laid him up for 2 weeks after not feeling well all year (he's fine now which is a great thing) I lost about 18 laying hens to some mystery cause that I still haven't figured out. No more have died since April which is a good thing. I think it had something to do with the invasion of mice I had in the coop and possibly them eating the mice that I had to put bait out to finally get rid of.

We had a family of raccoons hit two of our apple trees (one red delicious one golden delicious) and strip ever apple off of them. They were both loaded with fruit that I was counting on for home made applesauce. The family is together wherever raccoons go after you fill them full of shots of lead-acillin but in the meantime we are out about two bushels of apples.

Yesterday my oven went bonkers and wouldn't shut off. We finally flipped the circuit breaker and let it cool down. Turned the breaker back on and the oven had finally turned off. Tried it again tonight to make French fries and danged if it didn't do it again. DH had taken the back off and checked out the circuits and they seem to be working fine. Gave me a chance to clean and scrub under it. (I think it was the late great Irma Bombeck who said any woman who cleans under her appliances more than once a year needs a psych evaluation) DH suspects it's the thermostat going whonky. The stove is about 12 years old and has never given us any problems till now. It also took forever to pre-heat tonight which helped us suspect it's the thermostat. He's going to tear it apart and check it tomorrow but luckily we have a spare range....if it hasn't decided to go into permanent retirement in storage.

So yeah, I need a redo on 2024. Anybody agree with me?

Do you suggest we forego the remainder of 2024 and start with Jan 1,2025 tomorrow morning to prevent the madness of the rest of 2024?

I am really praying it gets better in November.
