Oh my goodness! I have heard of scarlet and rheumatic fever resulting from strep, but never did any follow-up research on either one. I just knew you needed to treat strep so those didn't happen. How awful, Chick! I'm sorry that happened to you.I was treated both times with long courses of Penicillin. After the second strep throat I wound up in the hospital for a month and was diagnosed with rheumatic fever. Wound up in bed for 6 months. It was a life changer for me. 2 years later I was put on cardiac meds. All my plans to go back to school and advance my education came to a screeching halt. I was 23 years old.
Treatable? Yes.....and no. Rheumatic or Scarlet fever and kidney/cardiac damage can result from Strep throat if you are susceptible. Trouble is you don't know if you are susceptible until.................

Anyway I'm thankful to have dodged that bullet this time, guess I just have a little "bug" and was told to go home and treat the symptoms. But at my age and being diabetic, I don't gamble.
