I hope we keep getting snow tonight, and not anymore rain/ice! I really want to go sledding with the children tomorrow!!
I'm sorry for your loss of your pet rooster Iris When we lost our 1st flock I think I cried more over the two roosters, because they were so sweet, and like pets, and then the way they defended their girls to the end..

Well I did not get the banana bread made but did make pound cake. To much chicken drama today to do much baking. We lost one of the older pet roosters to an unknown illness. Sammy had been sickly his whole life. He had splay legs as a chick so I fixed his legs and he bonded to me. He and 2 buddies were allowed to live in a small coop near our porch and became known as the Porch Pirates. Sammy was the smallest, Buddy in the middle and Hector the biggest. We let them free range during the day all last summer. Hector started to get aggressive so we put he and Buddy into a small rooster coop and Sammy in with a few small hens. Sammy would come to me everyday to see if I had treats and allowed me to pick him up and get cuddles. I noticed Thursday afternoon that he wasn't acting right so I brought him into the infirmary for special treatment. He was dead this morning when I went to check on him. I have to admit I cried like he was my baby.

We rescued our Lhasa Apso from a friend of my sister. She had bought Daisy as a gift for her 16 year old daughter. The 4 year old son abused Daisy to the point of rupturing her spleen. The Mom called me from the vets office to see if I wanted her when she was released. Of course I did! The Mom brought 8 month old Daisy, her papers, bed and food to me. She told the son the dog was dead. Daisy was terrified of green flooring even grass. I found out their kitchen floor was green and every time Daisy went in there she was either kicked or yelled at. We had Daisy for 13 years and have not had a dog since she died.

That is so sad!!!!!!!!

Wait what? Haha now I'm confused. I meant I don't get people want to live or be around stinky, gross animals like that. It's not the animals fault, but man urine and poop smell is no joke.

We haven't been urging Pi to go outside. Bless her little heart, she goes to the door and whines when she has to go but by the time we get boots and coats on it's too late. Today the sun was out so we tried to get her outside a couple of times after DH had plowed a clear area for her. Naturally she ran outside, avoided the plowed area, ran into the deepest snow which is taller than her belly and squatted there. Told her that if she kept doing that she was going to freeze something important.

But strange enough, our suspicions about her origins just keep looking more and more likely. She knows what eggs are. Grabbed one out of the container I'd used to gather eggs and took off with it. Tried to bite it but wound up breaking it and dove at it like it was a thick juicy steak......like she has been hunting down eggs in a barn since she was old enough to totter around. She also is lactose tolerant. LOVES milk. No barfs no runs, guzzles it down like she has been given milk fresh from a cow since she was weaned. I told DH animals will tell you their story if you listen to them.

Feel better, Granny. Not fair feeling bad on your birthday. I'd demand a redo!

Do you have animals? We have two cats and three dogs besides the chickens. No poop or urine smell around here! Everybody takes care of their "business" outside for the most part. If it rains the cats have litter boxes but their primary caretakers take care of all that. Those would be DH and my GC, my granddaughter.

the eggs are not worth you taking a fall and possibly laying there. Let it go.

No worries, Granny, I will use two canes and have GC go with me to keep me safe. The hen house is about 20 steps away from the back porch. I'll be fine and I'll report to you before and after
