My fourth grade principal was a very nice man. He kept a paddle over his office door. Mine was the first year they had permission slips for parents to sign regarding use of the paddle. My parents said no, if anyone was going to whack me, it would be them, to make sure it was done right. None of us kids ever got in trouble, ever. And I would talk back to teachers too, but politely, and only if they were wrong about something, which was surprisingly often. I knew my mom would go all mama bear on anyone who touched us! Made me fearless, but very polite, or she would have gone mama bear on me! I must have been an annoying student, but I kept them on their toes! haha!
