He was loved and died surrounded by us.
Poor guy.
I am not doing "this" ever again (this: having a dog die at home)

oh no. I'm so sorry kiki. Big :hugs and I pray that knowing that he's not suffering now gives you some peace.

This is not the one my nail went through.
All him. He started in the middle of that hole. I've been watching him and he's just been playing with the edges of it.



But the vein.... I didn't want to mess with it. He would bust on out if I took his lid off.

You would be surprised hun, they are pretty smart about not coming out before they are ready unless there are helpers in with them in the bator. By moistening the membrane not only will it make it easier for the chick to hatch when it is ready, but it will give you an idea on how far the veining has receeded. As long as you stay just in the air cell area for the shell removal it won't affect the vein. You would have to tear through the membrane to affect the vein
 
Alright Lisa and granny I don't have antibiotic ointment. I'm a "pours rubbing alcohol on it and go" type of girl. What else can I put on it if I were to open the top?
