Granny's gone and done it again

can get that big 10 lb roll of hamburger at wal mart for 23.00 thats $2.30 a lb.
wow!
I never go to walmart and I rarely ever buy that kind of meat...but it's worth buying and packaging it up in smaller size bags and throwing in the freezer...

It is funny ! I just said a few days ago to DW that it is tickling me to see the US again! I think it is because all this BYC things. ..
And yes it sounds terrific!
This was one of my loved Israeli singer, singing on Sunday Francisco!
You ever try feeding cherries to make the yolks red?

How much will you pay, in the supermarket or at butcher shop, for a 2,5 kg chicken? 5$ IS TO MUCH??? Here are BC Marans chick 2 weeks old will cost 80 shekels =20$
Hmm... Let me check. It's not a regular item that I buy.

Don't sell them in this price!
You better eat them yourself!
Then it's a waste of a young layer. At least someone else gets their value this way.

Sounds like it's time for another trip... towering redwoods, Golden Gate? Sound good?

You just helped me make up my mind. My 5 spring pullets are getting moved to the layer coop asap. I've been stalling worrying aboot :D the calcium issue. They will go in there and chow on the layer pellets anyway, so I know they like them. The garage is just too stinky and they are only there at night.

I can't buy beef chuck meat for 2.50 a pound here.
Fajita...beef skirt 7 a pound.
Ribeyes 8.00 a pound
Lobster 15 a pound
Ground meat 4.50 a pound.
Chicken thighs and legs for 1.00 a pound
Chicken breast usually 3 a pound.
Pork is cheap.
You're getting robbed on that lobster price...

I ran into a post on here where the lady mentioned her cherries were dropping to the ground and the chickens were eating them...she didn't post her own egg picture, she used an internet found pic......but what she said was it had a similar shade of red that her yolks were.
I bought some cherries this morning and am going to feed them out for a few days to see if I can get a red yolk.

This are my eggs!

$10. is what peeps TRY to sell their hens for.
I was talking about the feed.

Can you get any money for roosters there?
We can take them to the feed store and if they have room, will take them for a few bucks and sell them for a bit more, depending on breed and size. People will buy them for the table. Mostly people give them away, especially in late summer.

Twist, your "oats" is just look like regular oatmeal ? I know I have asked before . I havent found any. How is this better then me giving them corn ?
You are feeding all flock mostly? 20% protein? Ok, here's the scoop on that... Layer feed is always at 15-16% protein, because that is the optimal diet for a laying hen. A higher percentage protein throws off the balance for them. If they were out ranging, they could naturally balance the extra protein by eating grass. Higher protein is good for growing birds, but not so much for layers.
Corn is high calorie compared to oats, and makes them fat. Fatty liver disease is a common cause of death when otherwise healthy birds die around 1-2 yrs of age. If you could find oats or another whole grain cheap (wheat, barley) and use that to cut your flock raiser, it would help. Otherwise, I would switch to layer feed for most. Only worry about the extra calcium babies and for the Serama roosters, but I had one eating it for a few years with no ill effect.
