Granny's gone and done it again

Morning all! Had to break up a fight with my leghorn and bantam roo. As you suspect, the bantam got the short end of the stick.

I don't know what to do, his comb is all scratched up and I'm *pretty* sure he (the Leghorn) managed to pull the end of it OFF the bantam's head. Pretty bloody situation, but I washed him up but couldn't find the nesporn so I just let it go and put him in *his* room.

Going to change my clothes, brb

Good morning sweet peeps! Rainy here this morning. Granny, I did not dream about you last night. Just as well because I did dream about some kind of flood or tsunami and ducks. Lots of ducks! And geese. Big geese! Probably because of the rain pouring off the roof gurgling over my overflowing rain barrels!

Going to open the henhouse door so the biddies can decide whether or not they want to go out into the wet-but-covered run or stay inside. I posted my first for sale ad for them on my local neighborhood site. Y'all have that NextDoor app in your areas? It's been really great here. Nice way to keep up with local free stuff, garage sales, lost/found pets, power outages, etc.

Going to be sad to see some of the biddies go, but cash flow must start. And I don't have room to keep them all. Especially not more than one or two Roos, if that! Still want to try a rooster collar on that red EE boy. He's just too pretty, and very calm right now. My white leghorn pet rooster was fine around me and most folks. Got him for Easter when I was 5. I think he was 6-7 years old when he passed. I know I was about 11-12. Anyway, selling off all but about 8-10 of the 25, so I'm getting individual pics of the ones I'm not keeping. Hard choices. Guess I'll make a post on here too.

I hope Granny got some good rest. Sleep heals. Hugs for you Granny. :hugs

Guess I'm working indoors today. Picked a ripe cantaloupe. Want to get my flock journal in order, been too busy to file everything properly. Garden journal needs updating as well.

OMG Camp ! You did all that ? Sounds so good.

I had a lot of help. Three other people helping chop all the veggies, my one young helper did the pistolettes 90% by himself.

Camp, do you have a pic of the pistolettes ? I never heard of them.

I didn't, but I will when we eat the leftovers. It's basically a sourdough roll, but it's called a pistolette. That's even what the bag says.

Regarding church:

My dad felt the call to ministry when I was three years old. He's still preaching, Methodist. He had vocational certificates and left a good job in natural gas to go to college (when I was 10) and seminary (when I was 14) and live hand-to-mouth to serve the church. So I've seen hypocrites and I've seen miracles. I've been an unbeliever, and a skeptic. I've hated the church, and I've sacrificed my last $5 for a tithe (and ate food I pulled out of the trash for a week).

DH is not a preacher, but we live in ministry. We try our best to live by the Acts 2:42 model of the church: 42 The believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the community, to their shared meals, and to their prayers. 43 A sense of awe came over everyone. God performed many wonders and signs through the apostles. 44 All the believers were united and shared everything. 45 They would sell pieces of property and possessions and distribute the proceeds to everyone who needed them.46 Every day, they met together in the temple and ate in their homes. They shared food with gladness and simplicity. 47 They praised God and demonstrated God’s goodness to everyone. The Lord added daily to the community those who were being saved.

So that's why we always have people living with us. Why I'm always cooking. Why I'd rather give things away than make the money I should. It's our calling to care for and tend the community.

We've been to cold, heartless churches. Sometimes it's taken years to find the right one. Right now we have two good ones we love, each with sincere and loving pastors. The congregations are full of broken, humble, caring people. Some are rich and some aren't. Some wear designer clothes and salon hairstyles, some wear blue jean shorts with home cuts. Doesn't matter, because we are all the same community. The churches we currently attend work in partnership with the schools, promoting literacy in the low socio-economic schools. They work with the scouts, and they support the camp. I am in awe of their wisdom and compassion.

I understand that what I believe isn't the same as everyone else. That's ok, I'm not in the business of conversion. I've been called to love. That's it. But I do urge those of you with bad church experiences to try again. I can help find you a place. I have a friend in Georgia with a giant beard and tattoos on every inch of his body. He'd been burned by churches, but wanted to try. So I called a few in his area and got personal assurances that he'd be treated well on his visits. It's what community does.
