Granny's gone and done it again

Where is everyone?
Outside watching a fire burn. Took three tries to light it, everything is soaking wet from rain we had. I was going to light another one, but it was getting dark and i needed to find a lot of kindling because DH just piles up a bunch of logs and throws on a few fresh branches and he is done. That mess is not going to burn. So tomorrow i will collect a lot of branches and fill in the gaps so i can get it burning hot enough to light the logs.

We burn about once a week. The storms always knock a bunch of large branches out of the trees in the front yard.

We have 13 acres, almost all covered in trees. No one has removed any dead trees in a long time. Some trees have 2 other dead trees leaning on them. At any time of the day or night you might hear a tree fall. We are trying to get rid of a lot of the dead wood to decrease risk of fires.

That’s good. Having all that around could be dangerous.

The problem is, there is so much of it and my husband has a bad back. Those dead trees are the worst to cut down, they don't always go where you want them to. Those widow makers are very dangerous, some can just suddenly fall in the wind. Not trees you want to take down!
I don't much care for using a chain saw, though i did learn as a teen. The electric one is a little easier to use.

Could you put a ad out? Someone comes and cuts it down and hauls it away? It’s common here.

No, there is a glut of wood around here. People want to get paid for removing it. Then you have the problem of them saying they will come but they don't. We will keep on plugging, getting it cut as we can. Its mostly the pines that die off and people don't like burning pine because it produces a lot of creosote which can cause chimney fires.

Lots of wood around here too. But if they want it for free they have to cut it and haul it.

Do you have a chipper for the pine? Could use it for chicken bedding in the coop.
