Granny's gone and done it again

Have you ever tried Sussex? Love them and Polish! I had lots of breeds in TN but i am limiting myself here in consideration of husband and budget.

I looked at them but I need large to ex large eggs and over 250 a year production. They at some point need to pay for their feed from egg sales. Brahma's are my "eye candy"

might try some white Plymouth rocks next year. So far my 2 main breeds for eggs are the lorps and the new hamps. Wyandots took for ever to get to large which is unfortunate as the roo's are tasty and easy to clean. I just don't like how the Deleware look. The lorps are really hard to clean for butchering, black pin feathers on white skin not good.

My Sussex were fairly reliable layers. My Polish were amazing, but laid white eggs. Some folks prefer brown. I always sold hatching eggs and shipped them so i got good bucks.

UP here if they are white people think they are store bought and are just plain to hard to sell as farm fresh. And I hate the top knots on the polish.

I understand they can be/get mean and I am just plain not fond of a red chicken. The hampshires are a nice brownish color to almost orange with some having a little black on tail feathers.
Well, any breed can be mean. Had a rooster once whose name was 2 Kicks! He did not last long because i have no patience with nasty birds. I enjoyed my Buff Orps but they tend to be broodies. The better quality RIR are quite dark.
