Before I forget again, Red wanted me to tell you guys Merry Christmas & thank you for the lovely cards from you all. He would visit, but he can't get logged into BYC. He's frustrated, he can get on Facebook, but not here.

I wonder why he cant log on ?
Thanks Granny!

Quote: it was giving and has in the pas given me royal fits also. Wonder if it might be windows 8 , much worse, or explorer 10, and I can't even update that on this POS of a cpu, Still haven't crawled under/down my desk and hooked either the NEW or the REPAIRED cpu up. Maybe today. between naps.

henny, you did right to flag it.  I wouldnt worry about what a stranger thinks about how you live your life. Too many people agree with you to even make it worth your while to worry about it.
X2, great advice granny! People who I given my older birds to or sold very cheap have always been satisfied & I've always been upfront with them that their laying ability has decreased. When your just starting out or don't have a requirement for a large number of eggs getting a few established hens is the easiest way.

Didn't know you could do that! I'll do that next time. :)

Good advice! We always just kill ours, humanely of course, but I suppose when it's time to get rid of our EE's (soon!) I could try to give them away with full disclosure they don't lay. :)

And lets face it you just can't beat the flavor of an old hen when it comes to making stock or chicken and dumplings.

I think it's more honest and maybe even caring to give your birds the best care you can and then when they are past it to use them to nourish family and friends rather then to just waste the animal by throwing or burying it At least farm type animals. NOT dogs or cats. Also more humane then just letting then die of old age and the pain and decline that old birds go thru.
