Granny's gone and done it again

I say do it - it doesn't sound like he is in such serious condition that there would be any reason not to and you will be a much better caretaker if you allow yourself sometime away and get a good rest. There are plenty of people there to care for him during your absence.

True that! The only association I have with liver would be liver and onions that my dad used to love -- never cared for it myself, but don't recall any gravy being involved.
Mom made antelope liver wrapped in bacon once. Forst time I had liver and IT WAS SO GOOD. The bacon pretty much drowned out the whole liver flavor, but it wasn't too bad by itself, either.

The only thing to try and hide the taste was ketchup, which I didn't really care for either. My dad was notorious for stabbing yummy morsels off our plates... ya gonna eat that? stab. gulp. It was usually my little piece of yummy something that I was saving for the last bite too.

For some reason, I never had to guard my liver. Come to find out (40 years later!) that he never liked liver!

When we complained about having it, mom always said it's because your father likes it! My mommy lied!! She's the one that liked it.

Now that I'm a mature experienced an old person, whose taste buds have lost some sensitivity, I would want to try antelope liver, just to see what it's like. Antelope meat too. And bacon has mystical magical properties to make just about anything taste good!

Oh yes. Bacon makes everything taste good. She cooked it in bacon grease too.

Do different kind of animal livers taste different? Mom says that when she was little she hated liver, but she thought the antelope liver was pretty good. Maybe cuz the liver she had as a kid was storebought beef?

The general flavor is consistent - but the type, age, diet, etc of the animal it came from can influence the strength of the flavor so that some are overhwhelmingly "livery" and others are not....as can, to some degree, the preparation method.

That makes sense. Obviuosly the antelope was "free-range"

That's a good question. I have never had it other than beef (which we raised) and chicken and turkey livers, which taste, well... livery. The steers we raised were 100% grass fed, and as a kid I didn't like some of the meat because it had a livery taste to it too. I occasionally get grass fed beef now, and I kind of like the little bit of liver flavor in the meat. Guess our tastes can change.

I have never used the word liver so many times!

Best liver memory is of my mom feeding it to a great horned owl that she found by the side of the road. It had been hit by a car, but recovered with a little rest... and liver!

Huh! That's awesome! Good use for unwanted liver, too.
