So one of my regular hunter's who forgot/left the weight to their pressure canner and I mailed it back. Sent me a box of Kiwis to share with the maids. I have no idea how to tell if they are ripe and honestly the look a lot like Yak turds.
The note said he grew them himself.
Home grown ones will be the best, allowed to mature on the vine! Give kiwi a gentle squeeze... unripe will be hard, over ripe will be soft/smushy. It's ripe went it gives a little.
