@Dannachic one of those blue ones is cracked, I just noticed. Hopefully I get one today. I'm taking the day off tomorrow so I'll be able to get them packaged and in the mail!

Hi everybody! Got cobwebs in my brain, feeling fuzzy and can't wake up. Cloudy and threatening rain today. No new news to report except I found out who my egg eater is.

He's been sneaking in the coop and I caught him with one. BAD DOG!

Talked with granny last night about a Utube video that I saw of someone removing their roosters spurs with a Dremil. Because of how fast they rotate it actually cauterizes the blood vessels as it cuts thru the spur. You stay back from the leg like a quarter inch. It is a 2 man job & I just realized I have the kiddos coming out to stay this weekend & hubs weekend is already booked. So I went with the other option I watched on Utube. My Icelandics spurs were getting so big that it was effecting his walking & he was starting to tear up his favorite hens back. I heated a good size potato in the microwave until it was cooked but not mush. Then I cut it in half & wrapped each half in aluminum foil so they stayed warm to complete the job. Once outside I got the dog toenail clippers, a pair of needle nose pliers, a towel to wrap the rooster in & the blue coat. Once I had the rooster wrapped up so it wasn't thrashing I took a half of the potato and stuck it over the spur, staying back from his leg about a quarter inch. I held it there about a minute. Then I took the pliers & clamped on the the spur near the base & gently started to twist the spur. It turned off without much difficulty. Repeated the same procedure on the other leg. While I had him still bound I snipped some of his long toenails. Using the potato to stop the bleeding if I clipped too close to the quick. The quick part of the spur is red so I sprayed them with Blukote to keep the other birds from picking at them. Now I will have to wait a bit for the quick to recede so I can shorten it some more. Heres a picture of what the quick of the spur looks like. You can see by the picture that it is still quiet long. The picture of the utility cutter shows how long my Roos spurs were.
