Granny's gone and done it again

Flapjack is up to 5 chicks, 2 internal pips, and that dud. Terrible weather for hatching. One of the babies has a white face. :/

first it was toes, now faces. Maybe it's recessive and that's why not all of them have it?

My first hatches last year had very pink feet and white/yellow faces. Making hard culls has helped. I said white face but I meant under its chin, like a tuxedo cat. I've got a pullet or two that I can get rid of, then try again.

Would the white go away like in Australorps or are the chicks supposed to be all black also as a breed thing?

I'm sure you'll get it figured out. You have really nice birds and getting them just how you want them will take a bit of tweaking.

My limited experience has been that chicks that hatch with white patches will grow into black birds with red combs, amber eyes, or silver/gold leakage in the feathers. The goal is for chicks that hatch as black as possible. It's such a lofty goal that in the hona community most breeders will say "don't trust someone who claims they get all black at hatch."

Recently in the group they said that in Sweden it's been banned to cull birds that are the wrong color, and that as long as birds are "pure bred and healthy" that they want as many in the gene pool as possible. I don't totally agree with that mentality, but I do with I had the room to keep and breed the mixes.

Found that online, it's an isbar x hona.

That is a cool lookin bird.

Sigh. I am in a mood today. Work crap driving me mad hubs being hubs from last night...can I just go home and hang with my chickens? That would be awesome.

So I went out for a run last night...saw a bird...showed the pic to one of my coworkers. She started flipping out. YOU DIDNT RUN ALONE THERE DID YOU SOME GIRL WAS MURDERED THERE YEARS AFO AND YEAH THE GUY IS IN JAIL BUT MURDER!!! AND VANS TO KIDNAP YOU!!! BOSS MAN DOESNT EVEN LET BOSS LADY RUN THERE ALONE!!

1) it's not that sketch. It's a rather well used path/trail.
2) I'm not worth that much on the black market lol.

Oh my goodness though living your life in that state of paranoia. Would I run by an inner city crack den? No. But I run with no headphones and my gps trackers are goin.

This is just outside my office. (The other day she went off how we ladies shouldn't have to park up the street cause the bums will get us. Yes....we do have some crazies and vagrants but they're rather harmless. This vagrant in specific....very shifty.

:hugs star. I have times of anxiety and paranoia like that. Fortunately DH can usually reel me in. One of my biggest fears is a bridge collapsing as we drive over. I could handle that for myself, but when DD was a baby is was put of my head terrified. I made DH prove to me that he had a good, firm plan before I could relax.

Quote: Roo for sure. That line of EEs is a gangly ugly mess while they feather out.

i didn't want to say he is ulgy but really is..has a long tail too.

i will try to get a pic later DH will have to help me..ugly is not too friendly..doesn't like to be held at all...
If it's a male and not friendly, I think that's good. Will make a more respectful rooster. I've found that the very "friendly" (bold) cockerels are not properly fearful of us. As roosters, they are more likely to bite or come after you. My very friendly Serama chick, that I named Friendly, is the only Serama rooster I've had that tries to spur me. Good thing he only weighs around a pound! We changed his name to Joe.

You should take that coworker to a self defense class. She needs a little empowering!!

Shifty white bird is a Great Egret, if it was very large and had a yellow bill. I couldn't see from the pic. If black bill and smaller, Snowy Egret. I think it's the large one.
The vagrant is a Mourning Dove.

Those are nice birds, sadly getting pushed out of their territory by invasive Eurasian Collared Doves, who are super shifty.
