Granny's gone and done it again

What Benny said, and it also throws off a balanced diet because protein makes them feel full faster and they will stop eating, which means intake of other necessary nutrients is not met as well as it should. Really makes a difference if they are cooped all the time or out on pasture.

Extra protein during molt is good for them.

Just found that the oats like Twist feeds are 17% protein.
Interesting, thanks.

I know y'all were talking about selling chickens earlier. Last year I managed to sell 4 POL pullets for $25. People here think $5 each is too much for those. They are 3.99 for a sexed day old pullet chick at the feed store. And yet they don't care that you fed it all this time.

And you can't sell roosters. Even full blooded non common breeds. You're lucky if you can give them away

Ditto. Took me over 2 months to get someone to take my roosters. Yes, benny, I know what you're thinking, but most of them were smaller than quails. Not worth eating.

still in the torture chamber. Tried to make brown gravy. Made dumplins instead. Thought about straining it. Might look like gravy if I do that but taste like crap any way. BB

Just not worth the time for such little bit of meat lol

Making me hungry. Gravy is easy. Mom tried to put something one time in to thicken it up and it clumped so bad it got scraped to the dog. They wouldn't touch it lol

Those are the cutest hyenas I have ever seen.
haha! Yes, looks like they're smiling. I avoided the pictures of them carrying nasty rotted carcasses.

And for me feeding choice of layer , oats and oyster shell JUST works well. Also the roam the pen and get scrapes and such. The hens we have butchered have a nice layer of fat BUT not super fatty or super skinny.
For a non pastured flock, you are feeding what the professionals recommend. That the oats are 17% is good. Not too high and throwing things off, but also proving good tough fiber, which helps their systems similarly to ours. Those gizzards are meant to be grinding up oat hulls!

Since mine are out hunting and gathering every day, I worry that I need to add a little protein. Bought a bag of washed wheat, am going to sprout it for them. Apparently more nutritious when sprouted and pretty easy to do. They like it and get a little green stuff during our dry season. I just have to get in the habit of doing it regularly. How about today!

Typical man....
It's true. She always tells me that she don't know how she managed to drive all those years without me.

I did see them, but being an ape is a good thing! They are very smart and not all that different from us, really. Now if you want to insult someone, I'd go with
