Granny's gone and done it again

Fluttershy keeps sneaking up on me to bite my toes/ankles. Flitter keeps pacing the edge of her cage and peep-screaming.

I think I'm going to try to introduce them tomorrow.

DH thinks that since the school is so small, she may have to only read her grade so the books are available for the "proper" grade. She also said she can read (and maybe test?) a higher book if it's in her classroom.

They can't test books from the public library that are on the list?

Luckily she still loves to read. Sometimes she sighs and moans because the book she is reading ISNT on the AR, but it's something she likes.

A girl that was in her class pre-k thru last year switched schools and entered the summer reading in her new parish. She had hating reading and struggled, but really improved over the summer. She fell just short of the main goal, and was devastated. My details are fuzzy because I only got this info through fb updates. But I feel like in have the ability to help, and I want to try.
Yes, as long as the school has the test, she should be able to test on a public library book. Early on, I remember parents would pay for the library to add a test for a book their child was reading. Worked out great and the library got a lot of new tests that way. Sounds like your school doesn't not have a huge library, so making the point goals too high could be frustrating. I think it's sad that she is disappointed to be reading a book just because it isn't on The List. The dark side of AR.

Who's the man from Maryland on here?

It's not so much being disappointed as it is efficiency. She would like to test on the books she's reading, but sometimes she picks something off list because it's a subject she likes. She doesn't seem worried about points she's getting. Last year she was second in her class, but her total wasn't announced. It was the only grade not announced. The first place boy is the son of the teacher's BFF. And I hate to think it, but.....

Camping, I wish she could go to a better school, can you get her to a library. Books were my best friends.

Same! Yes, we went to our public library Saturday and got books. Thursday before we racked up in the clearance at books a million. AND she has books out from her school library. She doesn't need incentives.

my dogs are therapy dogs, we had a reading program where the kids read to the dogs when I worked at the library.

When I got my cavalier I wanted her to be a therapy dog. I enrolled her in puppy classes but the trainer broke her foot and had to cancel. It was for the best because Dolly did not have the right personality for that work.

Neither did Jewel.

Jasper is a natural, but we didn't know (and that dream was behind me) so now he has to outgrow his puppy phase. But I think he'll lay down while the kids read if DH stays with him.

I got the whole roof of the run secured! There are a couple spots that need attention, but for daytime when i am right there it's ok.
Two Speckled Sussex were the first ones out of the coop and into the run. Two Polish cockerels were staring at each other, raising hackles and just trying to look tough. Hilarious!
I no sooner got done the roof than i started picking up kindling for tonight's fire. Next thing i know, DH is ringing the supper bell.
He has been clearing dead wood and junk bushes around the perimeter of the house. So he has two huge piles to be burned.
After burgers cooked on the grill i went out to water before dark. Had to water the 6 small holly plants that were delivered today. The other 4 got shipped usps and did not show up yet. No idea why they do stuff like that, and when DH called them they had no idea either! 20171003_185654.jpg
Here is the current state of the deck. The one guy lost $80 or 100 bucks somewhere today, he thinks he lost it here. We looked around but nothing so far. I can't believe he doesn't use a wallet.
My clothes mostly dried before dark, the rest are draped on chairs in the house.
I am sitting watching the fire on and off. Not much breeze tonight which is good.
