Granny's gone and done it again

What grade is she in? That shouldn't be a reading grade unless she was grading the details. Sit her down & u teach her how to write it. This will help her next time. U shouldn't have to do it, but do it for her benefit.

3rd grade. I reviewed it with DD and explained how to include details in the future. Also will have to practice her handwriting because it was truly messy. She can do better.

DD made a C on a reading essay. She had a rough draft and final draft. The rough draft was not graded. DD said they were told to copy from the rough draft. Then she lost points because she didn't use details from the story and her paragraphs were not the right length.

I wrote a note asking her to call. :rant
I think Jane and I will rant right along with you. That is ridiculous. It also burns me up when when the teacher has students read and edit each others' paper as the only feedback. Pointless when they have never learned it properly from the teacher!! The new thing is for the teachers to be grading off of a rubric. If they don't give the student the rubric, then it is just a booby trap. Uuuuurgh! Jane is right, teach her yourself. That's what I did with both the boys.

She also had assignment that was graded on a curve. 2 POINTS. a 2-point curve. I put it on fb and in glad most of y'all can't see me getting heated over there. RANT RANT.

I'm very concerned that if 3rd graced are receiving a measly 2 points on a curve that the info was not learned. It's tempting to say "not taught properly" but that's an unfair assumption.

So one kid got a 98 and the rest, what? Failed? Went from F to D? DD went from B to B, so I can't imagine it really helped others all that much.

They used to do curves all the time when I was in school. Usually when the A students got B’s because their parents were important people *rolls eyes*

But in third grade? First curve I remember was 8th grade. We had to read "Robinson Crusoe" and it was awful. I did my best, one of the only books I never finished. I got a 47 on the test and set the curve. The teacher moved on to something else because seriously that book is awful.

And obviously I had curves in highschool and college. I'm concerned it's to makes the grades "look" better and in that case, how much better is it?

You need to have a conference with this teacher and ask her to justify her teaching methods. Then you can ask if she would like some help in the classroom because her methods suck! Teaching writing is hard, but giving a low grade and ending the assignment does nothing. Paragraphs should be worked on and revised until they are good enough to be an A. Everyone in the class should end up with an A if the teacher is any good at all.

We already know she's not very good. DD had her in kindergarten and we had lots of problems then. Last year I had a meeting with bubba's teacher, but the teacher was running late with others. So I sat on the hall and listened to the 3rd grade teacher screaming for 20 minutes. She's always bribing the kids with candy and pizza parties if they do well, but they never can earn the rewards. Demoralizing.

Yep 3rd grade. I remember because we rotated classrooms for every subject. We had more curving in Elementary school than HS. Honestly why didn’t the teacher curve geometry tests? Lol cause she sure as heck didn’t teach the stuff.
