It really depends on what type of mites they are. Don't bring your chickens inside if they are red roost mites! They will crawl off the birds and lay eggs all over your house. Northern fowl mites are grey and will have big clusters of eggs on the lower part of the feather shaft around the tail. Ivermectin works well against both types, but you will need further treatment of the coop if red roost mites are the problem.

umm, well, what do you want them for? Do they even sell nylons ant more?

I have had a blast with my birds this week. With all the gardens done & the temporary neighbors gone I've been free ranging them while I'm out there. Forgot how much fun they have turning over my flower beds & compost pile.

and all the work they save you by doing that.

Go check their roost with a flashlight. Red roost mites are active at night and crawl out of hiding to feed on the birds at night. You will see them dying wherever you sprayed and walking where you missed. If it's them, keep spraying!
Fowl mites stay mostly on the chicken and lay their eggs on the chicken. You will need to keep spraying the birds as the eggs hatch. It is hard to miss the egg clusters... make sure you know what you are dealing with. Red mites can kill in one night. They are evil.

You and @Yorkshire Coop got that mite thing going on. LOL She will poison 4 city blocks if you just mention mites.

With my back troubles this year I haven't been able to turn the compost pile like I used to. This has caused the pile to not break down fast. In 5 days they have probably dropped the height of the pile by a foot already. Much easier on me, yay.
