Granny's gone and done it again

Don't forget about tetanus. I lost a kid once even though i had vaccinated him when disbudded. It was awful. I tried everything. The vet said he never saw one last that long. It was very unpleasant.
I will make sure to ask Thank you for the suggestion and I even wrote it down so I don't forget because "I will have slept since then"

I have a confession to make. I took a chicken to the vet.

One of my little Serama hens had something wrong with her eye. I noticed it over a month ago when we had to evacuate. Everything else about her was normal, but her left eye was closed, and she had peck marks on her comb. Not sure if pecking caused the injury or they were after her since she couldn't see on that side. Isolated her with a friend and was trying eye wash and Vetericyn eye gel for a few weeks. The eye got a little better, mostly opened, so I returned them to the coop. About a week later, her eye was really bad, getting swollen and looking a little cloudy. :( This girl is quite the little pet, so I decided to see if there was some way to save her. Vet was great. He checked her out and I got antibiotics and eye drops for her. After just a few days, the swelling is gone, and the eye is starting to open up.

Sadly, I think she lost vision in the eye. Hope she will be able to return to the flock. It's kind of sad... every time I go out to check on her, she mama clucks and tries to feed me! She's lonely. I will bring her friend down for awhile after she gets better before they go back up to the coop.

Earlier this year, two of my roos got into a fight. My little D'Uccle vs. my Leghorn. Found the leghorn on his perch with his eyes closed and blood coming from the eyelid. Messaged my vet to ask if we should bring him in, she said it would be best.
When she first got a chance to look at him, she said the eye was gone and the banti probably ate it (ICK:sick). She took him in the back to give him some pain meds, but took another look at the eye and THOUGHT she saw something looking back at her! Along with pain meds, she also gave me some antibiotics and eye meds to give him. He DID keep his eye, and it "reappeared" after about four days, when I could see it when he opened his eye for brief periods at a time.

I guess my banti just has good aim.

Get the penicillin. Vet would give antibiotics and stitch up the abscess with a drain tube hanging out. After they cleaned it out, of course. Super stinky means it's not draining. Is the tissue healthy around it? No gangrene?

nope the surround area looked good I think some of the STENCH could have been from the drainage stuck on her wool as well. I have smelled some nasty smells in my life but I honestly think this may have been the worst ever and if not definitely in the top 5
