My original rooster was a sweetheart. His offspring have not been near as nice. The daddy of the barred rock roo I have now was meaner than a snake. Was glad when he disappeared one day but the son is as calm and cool as a cucumber.
In addition to his temperament, there is too much inbreeding at this point to seriously consider it. Really takes it out of me to have to deal with extra cockerels too. Not easy to get rid of them and feel good about it. I have a few very nice hens too, but no more chicks. If I can't let the chickens out, I won't enjoy having them. dang hawk. When I went up to the coop today, they saw me coming and raced over to the pop door hoping to get out. They will have to make do with chopped kale.Hi Pert. Lot of people wont keep sons of mean roos. I aint one of them.
They will love it! We have only done a kit once... And in 2nd grade they used graham crackers stuck to single serving milk cartons... canned frosting, and TONS of candy. It was gross, but the kids had a blast!Me too, I baked genuine gingerbread for gingerbread houses yesterday afternoon. On Christmas Eve day we decorate them with the grandkids. Have always wanted to try making it from scratch versus a kit. I have a large church & 3 small house made up for the kiddos. Rod got the heavy cardboard today, so I will be able to get them assembled & ready.
