Granny's gone and done it again

the top rail of the fence is wooden 2x2s . From him jumping up it broke in 2 places. It must be rotting .
Is it just him that will run off? Are the other's okay to go out?
First dog we ever had was a huge black lab (maybe Newfie cross) and he wasn't neutered, so he would just take off if we let him loose in the yard. My folks would put him on a long chain if they couldn't be out to watch him, until my dad built him a little dog yard. When he FINALLY agreed to neuter him, the dog hung around without the chain.
So, maybe you can have a long lead or chain to attach him to so he can go do his business but can't run off. Have to have a martingale collar so he can't back out.
You could leave for a short time without having to be there.

Bandit dont want to take off he just wants to run and bark and chase cats. I used to let star run but she refused to go without me and Frosty took off when I first got her and was MIA for 3-4 days. If Im not around I dont trust her. What is a martingale collar ?

Nevermind I seen them

Sounds like you really need a secure fenced area. :hmm
I'm trying to think of something.
How about a hotwire around the dog yard?
Could you do a patchwork repair and then spray with that bitter anti chew stuff for dogs to keep him from making new holes?

Kidney update!
Remember the young man that fell and damaged his kidney last Sunday? Well, he is still in the hospital. Good news is no surgery needed so far. The dr.s are hoping the kidney will kind of heal up on it's own, which it seems to be doing. It won't be functional, but at least he would be saved from an operation.
Bad news is he is running a low grade fever. More hospital time.
His injury is Grade V
