Is it possible that you accidentally bumped the dial cleaning it? It is so easy to do with those styrofoam bators. I glued a bottle top on mine so it was easier to adjust the setting.

No way, it was cranked too high. I mean a little bump is one thing. I was quite careful when i cleaned it.

The 16 bean I bought comes w/ a ham flavor packet. Mom insisted on buying that kind . She rinsed them and lost all the yellow one and half the green then she would throw the flavor pack in the garbage, add her onion and bacon grease and a box of chicken broth and we was good to go. and salt.

Eww, I always throw out that seasoning packet as well. Smells nasty to me. Figure I can try my hand at seasoning, can't be worse than using that packet lol.
