Granny's gone and done it again

I found mites in the nest boxes for the laying hens today.:mad::mad: They were thick, just terrible. Luckily they are in the boxes out in the run and not in the coop were they roost. It started with 3 hens being broody for way too long. That's the last time I let them stay broody, because that's where the mites got a foothold. Must have been feeding on the one last broody and enough eggs laid that population EXPLOSION.:mad::mad: 2 of the hens gave up a couple weeks ago, but the last one was setting longer, and probably provided the feast for the little beasts. She got off last week and then the hens quit laying in those boxes... I should have known there was a reason. I looked, but didn't see anything until today... where there were too many to miss. I sprayed the whole thing, removed all the bedding into a plastic trash bag that got sprayed and straight into the garbage. ugh. I will be spraying the rest of the coop too, but for now, have seriously decimated the little creeps.:mad::mad:None of them were red, so fortunately no eggs would have been laid from this last massive hatch. I'm going to have nightmares. And I'm itchy.:hmm
