Looks like you could cut them a lot shorter than that.

I thought the quick came down very close to the tip of the spur. I cut off half an inch on the right side. Figure I will trim it every two weeks and go a little shorter each time.

Need to do the same with Scooter. His nails are so long we're going to start calling him Wolverine!

Day was ok. Went to Costco and ordered some new glasses, then we brought pizza home for dinner. Warriors game, pizza, and a fire. Life is good!

I missed all them posts and pictures. I agree w/ Cap. You can do it the hard way if you want but I would of took more or even removed them. He is old ? It might not be mites. Probably is but when they get old their feet do that too BUT do I see bumble ?

Once in a rare while I will crave oranges really bad and eat a couple every night then I will start loosing a lb a day. Too bad the craving goes away

I've seen threads about taking off the whole thing... not going to do that. The way they are now makes him pretty harmless, especially when he's doing his thing with those poor little hens. The scales on the front of his legs are very raised... looks likes mites... they've had them before. I think his feet are just dirty. I didn't notice anything but will check for bumble next time.

well Im not sure if I could either but my little roo from way back had them bad and he shed it himself somehow. It was pink and raw looking but he did really good.

Yep. Marti and Scotch had a date on Black Friday.

Something disturbing today... #1 noticed the serama rooster's spurs have finally grown into the sides of his legs. I knew it was coming, but obviously haven't been checking well enough. Spurs are embedded... his right side is worse.

Thought I was in for a heap of trouble and a bloody mess, but it wasn't too bad. Clipped as close as possible and calluses must have formed since the spur tips came out with no blood.

So glad he caught it early. Lucky for that rooster #1 likes him and picks him up every so often. Guess this will be a regular maintenance thing.

Oh, he's got leg mites too.

poor fellow. I don’t have any that long or that direction but I plan to completely remove them if needed. They make me think of dew claws and I’ve seen some bad ones.
