Night all
I hear ya. Peach has to go pee middle of the night and DANGIT I’m up now.I am aggravated w/ this sleeping thing that seems to be eluding me .
So, I was just kid, and got home from school one day, came in the gate and saw a big dog up the driveway. Oh cool, we have a visitor! She was obviously a Dane, long ears, blackish brown with lighter mottled spots. Got closer to her and my heart fell... skin and bones, and the skin didn't look so great. Never seen anything like it. And then she turned her head toward me and one eye was missing! Just a black empty socket. And in between the socket and the good eye, there was a lump under the skin, just about the size of an eyeball.
Well, it made me wonder!
She had just showed up. Mom took her to the vet who said it would be a mercy to put her down. Her eye had been surgically removed, the lump was most likely cancer, her shoulder had been broken and healed crooked. As usual, mom ignored the advice because the dog was so calm and and had a lovely temperament. The 2 dogs we already had (Buck, a huge lab/maybe Newfie cross and Rhoda, our first Ridgeback) accepted her immediately, so she got a very good recommendation. AND she didn't chase chickens or horses or cats! Of course my mom worked her magic and soon Elsa was on the mend.
Neighbor came visiting a few months later and recognized her. Elsa had lived about a mile down the road on a farm that had been abandoned by the renters. It was noticed because the cows left behind were starving. Too late for the 3 German Shepherds locked in a shed. They were so crazed from hunger and in such poor shape, the animal control shot them on site. Elsa was the lucky one, apparently spent her life there tied under a tree, and either someone let her off or she slipped her collar. It was 3 or 4 months after all that that she showed up at our place. The messed up shoulder, still containing buckshot, was from a neighbor (boo him!) who shot her for being in with his sheep. Apparently she wasn't even chasing them. One thing she learned being on her own was how to eat blackberries off the bush and avoid stickers!
If I could have a dog back again, it would be Elsa. She was wonderful. Walked on a leash, only barked when a stranger came on the property, never ran off, and was protective. One time I walked her to the bus stop to wait for my little sister. The bus stop was at a big tree in the center of where 3 roads connected. While we waited, a man in a little open sports car drove completely around the tree, looking at us the whole time. Elsa kept herself between me and the man and was growling at him. I felt very safe!
Oh, and the lump was cancer. The vet said it would come back. Mom had him remove it anyway. It did come back a little and she had him take it off again, and then she was fine. I think we had her for 12 years. Not long enough. The gentlest, bestest dog ever!
(And more than you ever wanted to know!)
Oh yes, I get that too. One bad knee doesn't like the cold rain.
I'm pretty sure he already had the stroke a few months ago. He was having trouble on one side, but seemed to recover. He's losing control again, but I think it's old age and he's declining. I keep propping him up!
Scooter has been taking his food out of the dish and sometimes he even tosses them around the room.He never did that with Belle around! Now he had started burying his food. Right now there are 4 toys piled on his bowl.
ugh. Would have to wear socks AND mittens AND a hat! brrrr
I find the telemarker computers will often disconnect if you answer on the second or fourth ring, since most answering machines pick up then. Now we've got robo ones that leave a message too.Dang telemarketers.
Well, somebody is handy!![]()
As is I’m sure my vets down here don’t know what to do with me.I am so glad she found you! It must have felt like heaven to hug er after all she had been thru! Those kind of stories are why I got away from being a vet tech.
I get most of my dog and cat vaccines at TSC. Rabies has to be given by a vet so its documented, but everything else is done at home. I give my dog a small oral dose of Ivermectin once a month to keep heartworms and intestinal worms away. I'm not spending vet money when I can do it myself. As is I’m sure my vets down here don’t know what to do with me.8
I was so good up north. Now I’m consistently late on her shots. :/
Thank you for posting this beautiful song Twist. Three of the best performers ever. But how does he sing when his heart must be breaking? I wouldn't even be able to speak thru' the tears.
I think I want this at my funeral.
Oops, no i missed it. They are arriving at supper time, staying the night and then spending the next day. Then they travel to NJ to see her sisters new baby. We will see them for a day on the way back. And yes they have been here once before.Goodnight Cap. Did you see this?
Sounds like cooking to me.We passed by that chinese place today where we ate and my mouth watered. LOL I would love to go back there some day. I knew I wouldnt talk anyone here into it. Maybe I should learn how to make that spinach thing.
I hope your headaches go away. I used to get a lot of migraines that made me puke but not so much any more.Just not feeling well. Headaches.
