Granny's gone and done it again

Sounds like you need another pooch! We have 2 bird dogs....yup! I know, kind of an oxymoron when owning chickens! But they came BEFORE my flock! They would be my birds’ worst predators, but they keep everything else away. My flock doesn’t free range unless the 2 dogs are inside. We live in the wooded country, so free ranging full-time would be a disaster!
I do have a doggie, but he likes to stay near me now that companion is gone. AND Scooter listens to me and I told him to stop chasing quail... and he did. My fault the hawks are here. We need more crows to chase off the hawks!
I live in a little rural neighborhood. Back half acre is totally fenced and borders on the back yards of 7 neighbors (which is why I only keep a pipsqueak rooster). Predators aren't much of a problem here. The run for my mob would be comfortable for about 4 hens. With 13, they HAVE to be out every day.

We looked again today at petsmart. I mentioned it to my daughter. She said what? A snail as a pet, I don’t think she can handle much more.
They need calcium and protein. They don’t need a heater but you need a lid or they will crawl out. They are pretty darn easy otherwise.
Did petsmart not have them?

Sweet ! I read only 4-5 will hatch out of a full sac. Will be interested to find out how true that is.
Them meat birds Love you without even trying. Mine would jump on my hands and sit there when I tried to do anything. Wanted to be held.
These were shipped ones but I definitely have more than 4-5 fertile eggs.
We will find out:)

Yeah, sometimes I think CA is going down the toilet and we should move... and then winter comes and I just can't leave. Complete weather wimp here.
Sometimes I think of moving south to warmer weather then I realize I can’t take the heat lol

@AlleysChicks baby snails??? Now that is something I have never seen! Do you have pix???
I can get a pic in a bit. I need to add water shortly.

I completely understand! I name every critter that finds a home here on my small farm.
That’s awesome! What did you teach Wishing?....
Sorry, missed this one... I was a science teacher. Combat duty at a middle school in a tough area. Then I jumped from the frying pan into the fire and taught at a drug treatment program for juvenile offenders, trying to get them graduated (science, economics, arts and crafts, and even the dreaded English!). Was halfway through a Special Ed credential too, but then had my own little baby to take care of and quit the whole thing. I wasn't really suited, temperament wise. Best job would have been as the science teacher for an entire elementary school... have each class rotate through and give the teachers a prep period. Not many schools do that, but it would be great, since science is the least taught topic in the lower grades.
