Well, I am totally confused.
A stomach that functions properly will empty in 4 to 6 hours. Food generally takes 5 hours to move through the small intestine and 10 to 59 hours to move through the colon.

If he is at the slow end of the spectrum, 6 hrs to empty his stomach, and 5 hrs to empty small intestine is 11 hrs. GENERALLY taking 5 hrs to empty sml intest means he easily could have food in his system after 12 hrs (especially if the antibiotics have depleted his gut bacteria). And if you are saying he didn't eat, and they think he should have cleared all the food, then they should be looking for other problems. The man is BLEEDING.
