Folks, at a trot the normal horse's hoofs hit the ground two hooves together. So it's a two-beat count. At this pace, each hoof hits the ground separately, for a four-beat count. There are always three feet on the ground, right, Cindy? Compared to this gait, the trot feels like a lurch! Am I correct in thinking I have seen demonstrations of riders going around with a tray in one hand with a wine glass on it to demonstrate the smoothness of this gait? You could not do that at a trot!
