So you got a "fixer-upper." Sounds amazing! How long have you been there, and did you know you were going to raise yaks on it when you bought it? Did it have yaks already or did you have to find them from somewhere?

No animals at first and wasn't sure what type I was going to get. SO we fenced for elephants and or goats originally. Latter just for elephants. Have put in over 700 railroad ties for fence posts. Most of the fence is either cattle panels stappled to ties placed every 8 feet and then a top and bottom 2x6 board at the top or bottom Around all the barns.

Big pasture is about 1/2 ties every 10 feet with 4 strands of sucker rod. The rest where it can wash out is 4 strands of barbed wire with alternating metal t posts and 6 or 8 inch round pressure treated wooden posts.

I'm bein a brat. A woman tried to tell me once what smoking was doing to my lungs. I thanked her politely and explained, "I don't smoke because I'm ignorant, ma'am. I smoke because I'm stupid." And then we both laughed. But the truth is, I smoked bc I was addicted. And it takes making a decision and a commitment to beat that addiction. I'm just having a littlefun wit' you, Twist.

40 acres is NOT enough land to really run cattle except for maybe miniature types. Then looked into something like highland cattle , the width of their horns would be an issues. HATE any of the cameloid family and the feeling seems to be mutual as they ALL spit at me. Goats to hard to keep in (fenced) Sheep to stupid and I didn't want to have to mess with shearing. Then I found yaks

Meat is healthier then skinless chicken breasts. Tastes like beef/venison to me. I can keep 3 animals on the same amount of land as ONE regular cow. They are just plain COOL !! Love the winter, almost no calving issues. Semi-gentle. You can/could raise them for fiber which is the equalivant to cashmere.

Bruce mostly accident but a few tricks too including water change and feeding frozen blood worms. I am terrified if I should take parents out now or let them do their thing.

What it their thing? Eating babies?

The babies are trying to swim w/ the parents and they keep picking them up and putting them "back to bed". LOL Pretty cute.

Aww... until they need a midnight snack!!

a gallon of ice weighs 8 lbs. They add 3 so 24 lbs in ice then 10 meals and a couple juices, powdered milk and bread. butter 30 lbs. tops? What a crying shame.

Next time ask them to take the ice out of the box for you.

My birds are in a 20 x 20' old dog pen with plenty of sandy loam soil. First thing they do after eating is go eat dirt. You would imagine with all that sand in their crop it would grind up anything including all the little spiked balls they eat off the grass tops.. Sand spurs we call them.

Little pebbles are good for their crops. You can buy grit for them.

I used to read my kids stories and rub their backs so they would relax and sleep.

I used to read to the boys every night. They had to poke me to keep reading. I always fell asleep first.

I went back 2 pages and found 4 posts I didnt see first time around. Hey Wishing, In a month they will grow those top and bottom fins. Til then they look like reg. fish

So, maybe dime sized by that time?
