Granny's gone and done it again

Morning all. Yesterday mom was loved to a long-term care facility so she can get IV antibiotics for two more weeks.

I told the kids they can’t gave screens today. We’re going to dig up ground for our fall garden. Just whatever I have the seeds for. Our first frost is mid-November, but I’m thinking I could put a cattle panel over it and make a small green house, and maybe extend the season a bit. I’m only three hours north of where I had been, but the growing season is a bit different they tell me.

HA! Got the Eastern Wood Rat that had been living in the shed on the first try. She just couldn't resist peanut butter wrapped in a flour tortilla. Only problem is now, after taking a pic of her, I got busy doing something else, and Gator has toted her off and buried her somewhere (He's really good at that.. I've seen him bury dead mullet, bunnies, even gloves). She was still in the trap, so now it's a waiting game to see where he goes so I can recouperate my brand new rat trap! Lil buggar.

You must have great soil there. I know where I am it's so much better than where I was.
I'm an hour or so north of the gulf coast, but the soil here is so different that my garden was nearly a success. I need to find some other area for it since Henri and Sweetpea now occupy that space. I put the dog panels around it to keep Gator out (he loves digging) and now it's covered with deer netting to keep Henri and GF in, and hawks out. So much for my 'kitchen garden'.
P.S. So glad your mum's doing better now. I know that's a relief.

The soil is red clay, but I bought three bags of compost/manure to add in. The kids are going to have to pull up the grass also.
