Dang girl that is one impressive black snake. Kudos to you handling it. Did it bite you?

I've got an idea! We need to find a post from somebody who says that when you catch a predator you should take it out and set if free to raid hen houses again...and mail it to them....

I'm sorry, yeah, I'm a bad girl that just sort of slipped out. If I'd ignored it my brain would have exploded.

So excited! My new washing machine just arrived. Now I can catch up on two weeks worth of dirty clothes and Diesel (cattle dog) has a new shelf to sleep on which means I need to put a blanket over it when it's not in use.

It's so pretty and white and clean. No dog prints on it, no surprise lizards in it. I may cry

I've got one of the chicks that pop up out of the brooder whenever I take the screen off to add feed or clean the waterer. He's one of my favorite lil guys.. Not afraid and comes right over for pets.. I think I shall name him Braveheart.
And the smallest chick in the bunch gets the name of Merlin! I have no clue how he manages, but if there's a fly in the brooder, he's the one that always goes after it, and gets it. I've seen him jump straight up and catch a fly, then run around until he feels it's safe to lay it down for repositioning to swallow.

My three that are in the brooder room are just now starting to eat out of my hand.

Speaking of which here are my three little Miracle chicks. The two in the front were hatched from badly fractured shells/eggs. The little one in the back is the baby who decided to arrive 3 days late. I'm thinking she is a pullet.

All have Fayoumi in them but I have no idea who was over who. Strange is the little one one the lower front/left has a white stripe down the middle of it's forehead (you can see a bit of it on the upper pic) but they all have brown breasts and highlights saying that one parent was Fayoumi as they are the only ones in my flock that produce chicks with any brown on them.

Thank you! We have a friend who used to be an NPIP breeder. When I asked them for advice concerning the fractured shells, I was told to brace myself for failure. Well, 2 out of 4 that were fractured succumbed. Two hatched and are healthy. They were impressed as I was told they had never had good luck with patching fractured eggs.

So I call them my miracle chicks.

I have been handling snakes since I was little. I usually don't get bitten, but these King snakes have been grumpy lately. I wasn't able to grab his head and I didn't want him to escape, so I grabbed half way up his body. He bit my arm. You can see the blood on my arm in the one picture.

Thank you! They are the future of my flock. Having fought Marek's disease for for over 3 years, I decided last year to introduce Egyptian Fayoumis into my flock as they are naturally resistant to Marek's disease. Hopeful that they will cross with my resistant Amish barnyard mixes and I'll get more resistant birds from the union.

Some folks use wax, I have heard of duct tape being used too.

I have been handling snakes since I was little. I usually don't get bitten, but these King snakes have been grumpy lately. I wasn't able to grab his head and I didn't want him to escape, so I grabbed half way up his body. He bit my arm. You can see the blood on my arm in the one picture.

King snake? It looks like what we call black snakes here.

I've handled snakes before, usually little garter snakes that I find in the yard and want to save from the lawnmower. They are all attitude when they are only 6 inches long.
